RELENTLESSLY PROFESSIONAL – Excellence in an Unregulated Industry

Unregulated??? Yes.

There are no codified design standards for seawalls and marine structures in Florida. While FDEP regulates a project’s impact on the environment, there are no structural design parameters and rules governing structural approach. Florida building code has minimal standards for retaining walls, often not followed in many designs. Local building departments rely on the professionalism and integrity of engineers and contractors to protect the public and generally accept any design that is sealed under the assumption that engineers are adhering to the well-established code of ethics and standard of care. Sadly, not everyone follows these professional standards closely enough in design or construction. Thus, in this wild west of an industry, it seems far too many
projects are poorly designed, poorly built or in some cases, wildly over designed and expensive.

Unfortunately, while seawalls are not complex, they can be tricky to get right. We have been working in this industry for over two decades and have seen much more lack of attention to basic design approaches, poor understanding of the environment, and shoddy design and construction than we have seen quality. In the pages that follow, we will discuss the simple, yet critical considerations for proper design that is often overlooked by others in the industry.

We have chosen to be RELENTLESSLY PROFESSIONAL and stand apart in robust design, care in material selection that provides for 75+ year design life, project oversight and value engineering to always provide the most structurally sound and economically efficient product for our clients. That means you get the lowest life cycle cost in terms of reliability and durability for the dollars you spend.
